When babies do not attach securely to their parent or Key Person, then different behaviours emerge instinctively or are developed by the young child to cope. Some babies and young children become withdrawn and do not attempt to engage with the carer. At the other end of the spectrum, some become so anxious that they constantly demand attention to ensure they are not ‘forgotten’ again (Schofield and Beck 2006).
