Quote

The Oxfordshire ACI Project found that practitioners need to be particularly alert to children who do not want to have conversations with them. Some children are very adept at avoiding interactions, and they are often the children who need them most…Children who have English as an additional language, children who are shy, children who are not used to communicating with an adult, children with language delay may all find interacting with practitioners stressful and challenging. However, these are the very children practitioners need to be most empathetic towards and work hardest with to build a communicative relationship.
