They need to touch stuff and see stuff and smell stuff and all the rest, with as much variety as possible. Children should pet a rabbit, put a piece of lemon in their mouths, skin their knees, look at art, listen to live music, smell herbs and spices, get squeezed in a bear hug, hang upside down, and have any other kind of sensory experience they can (metaphorically) get their hands on.
