Teaching, whether it occurs formally in a classroom or informally in our daily interactions with one another, challenges us intellectually. When we try to explain a concept to another person, we have to turn our sometimes rather vague understanding into words that are so clear that the other person, who may know nothing about the concept, can understand it. To do this we have to think deeply about the concept and sometimes even change our initial understanding of it.
