In a nationwide poll of American children ages nine to fourteen, commissioned by the Center for a New American Dream, 90 percent said they want more time with their friends and family rather than more material possessions. When asked if they could have one wish to change their parents’ job, 63 percent said they would want their mom or dad to have a job that gave them more time to do enjoyable things together, while only 13 percent wished their parents made more money.
