Permissive parents put a high value on a child’s autonomy. The parent has few rules and attempts to use reasoning to elicit the child’s compliance, yet rarely enforces control over the child’s behavior. The parent is warm but lax. The child has minimal responsibility. Children of permissive parents have little ability to persist when they face challenging tasks, making them less likely to achieve their potential.
