When students are frustrated, when they are insufficiently challenged or pushed to achieve, they do learn, but not necessarily what they’re being taught. What they learn is that the educational process is boring or makes them feel bad about themselves. They see that what they achieve and how they achieve it is relentlessly judged. They learn to quell independent thought and value-laden questions that normally bubble up in those growing whole selves.
