What role do parents play in babies’ developing perception of self? Not much. Babies pretty much figure out these things on their own, without the aid of special classes or educational toys. Just ordinary, everyday experience combined with what baby brings into the world provides baby with the necessary opportunities to develop these primitive, yet enduring, self-understandings.
