Believe it or not, the extent to which kindergartners make new friends and are accepted by their classmates predicts how much they will participate in the classroom activities and even how independently they will work at more academic tasks. This means that the more social children are also the more independent learners. As kindergartners forge new friendships, they also seem to integrate themselves better into the learning environment in ways that foster academic competence.
