Children are curious, not suicidal. They want to explore and learn, not do themselves in. Many early childhood environments are too sterile. Many of the items that children need to interact with are removed from the environment in the name of safety. If children are not allowed to learn to safely handle these items in a well supervised environment they will miss many opportunities for sensory and small motor development.
