Blankets are readily available, big, colorful, and easily manipulated, so of course, they make loose parts enticing. Kids can haul them, arrange them, fold them, snuggle in them, build forts out of them, pull stuff around on them, wrap things up in them, read under them, hide under them, and more. They support schema play, sensory integration, and STEM exploration.
Simply plopping a stack of them in the corner of a play space is enough to spark child-led play and exploration.
