Sight is one of the most important senses for survival. For instance, a child with a fully functional visual system will assess how high he is off the ground when standing on a rock. If the rock appears to be too high, the brain interprets the thought of jumping off as a dangerous act. If the rock appears to be somewhat close to the ground, the child may attempt to jump—using his visual memory of how high he successfully jumped the last time.
