Many well-intentioned adults believe they need to begin teaching babies from birth. They count the rings as they pull them out of the box in front of a twelve-month-old child. They hold up a ball and ask the toddler what color it is. They pace the house with baby in arms, pointing at objects and naming them. But teaching a baby or toddler isn’t necessary. When you trust that your baby will learn in the course of her everyday life, the time you spend with her will be a lot more pleasurable.
