Facing reality helps kids move from artificial to authentic maturity. Today we don’t just prevent failure, we allow or even offer artificial means of support to avoid it. We hate pain. We hate failure. We hate struggle. We hate stress. We medicate anything that brings discomfort and distract ourselves from the consequences of who we really are. Sometimes I wonder if we prefer artificial happiness to authentic growth and maturity. We just want to feel good, right now, at any cost.
