I now use the term karaoke to describe a parenting style I see today. In fact, it’s a temptation I struggled with myself for years. “Karaoke parents” are moms or dads who want to sound like their child, dress like their child, talk like their child, look like their child, and even act like their child. Their motivation? To keep up with the current youthful trends in the hope that they’ll be liked by their son or daughter and his or her friends. They want to be relevant. For many parents, it’s a conscious effort.
