In his work,[John] Locke speaks of observing children at play, leading him to advise against suppressing play but replacing it with educative play. This perhaps influenced later scholars who suggested a play curriculum for young children in many schools and child development centers. Locke’s “play-way” meant that learning should be made as much a recreation to children’s play as play is to learning and the task of learning should begin at the right moment, when the child is ready.
