Parents are the ultimate authority in a child’s life. The State may take over only in cases of abuse and neglect. Teachers and schools must concede that parents have the right not to have unwanted homework imposed on their family. Teachers are charged with doing what’s best for a child’s academic learning. Parents are charged with doing what’s best for the whole child, and when the two collide, parents have the ultimate authority.
