There are two ways to think about intelligence. Carol Dweck, one of the country’s leading researchers on how intelligence is conceptualized, calls these two different points of view “fixed” and “growth” mind-sets. A fixed mind-set is assumed not to be amenable to modification. Either you were born “smart” or not. The other way to think about intelligence is that you “get smart” at something because you work hard at it. In the growth mind-set, intelligence can be developed.
