“Human rights belong to everyone from cradle to grave and everywhere in between, irrespective of who we are or where we come from.” (Alison Tonkin)

In response to Is play a human right?…The work is hard and the pay is low…it’s the way it is! Then go do something else. If you want to be in this profession and do what is absolute best for young children, then you have to do the work involved. The children are suffering. I LOVE going away from the word ‘quality’ and moving towards “healthy, safe and happy”. I own a center in small town Nebraska. It is VERY different from any center in the area. We play the entire day. No times set for anything except meals and naps (for older kids). Listening to your podcasts during office work days helps me to keep my focus on play and what is best for kids. I will always stand up for children, no matter what society and schools say. Leading and mentoring families, staff, and the community into a play-based, child led facility is not an easy task. However, the results are being seen and the behaviors are VERY low. Kids are happy, healthy and safe. The ultimate goal. All children have the right to play and have time to choose how they want to lead and spend their day playing. Thanks for being a model for all practitioners and for keeping young children’s rights a priority.
