What is play? In the English language, the word play refers to a wide range of all sorts of activities, from football to Broadway productions, and from drums to Las Vegas gambling games. When it comes to play in school, there are as many definitions as there are play advocates, which is a lot. The problem that often occurs when we talk about the role of play in early childhood and later on in schooling is that the word play has so many different meanings.
