Success in school is a function not only of the relationship between each student and the text, or even the relationship between each student and the teacher, but also of the relationship among the students: how they show and watch, talk and listen, assert and rebut. What must be justified, therefore, are not classroom arrangements that encourage cooperation but those that separate students from one another.
