BACK OFF A BIT Sometimes adults hover. It’s well-intentioned hovering, but it’s not as helpful as they think. Being right there for kids all the time does not encourage them to take risks, find their own solutions, develop their social skills, self-regulate, and learn to know themselves. It also leaves them thinking the world is overly dangerous, they aren’t up to its challenges, and they aren’t trusted to make good choices.
